Nugget.one
Justin Vincent spent over 25 years as a developer and entrepreneur, constantly generating startup ideas. But he realized he was terrible at picking which ones to actually build. Rather than letting this be a weakness, he turned it into a strength by creating Nugget.one—a platform to systematically collect, curate, and evaluate startup ideas at scale.
Vincent sourced ideas from multiple channels: his own brainstorming, conversations with mastermind group members (Chas and Jeremy Noonan), and community contributions. Over time, the database grew to house 4,000 different business ideas, though only around 780 were premium-tier concepts. The platform allowed him to observe patterns across thousands of potential ventures and understand what actually worked.
Through years of evaluation and experimentation, Vincent distilled his learnings into specific criteria. He realized that for his personality and strengths, the best ideas were those he could execute solo—"a one man wrecking crew" who could deliver high value directly to customers and iterate on their feedback. He learned to avoid ideas that required managing many people, building on others' platforms (like Twitter or app stores) where the ground could shift beneath him, or those dependent on physical logistics like his mobile delivery app experiment.
Eventually, Vincent moved on from actively building Nugget.one to focus on new projects, including trylist.io. But the 4,000 ideas he'd accumulated became a valuable resource—Rob Walling used them to create a YouTube series showcasing SaaS ideas every 6-8 weeks. Nugget.one served its purpose: helping Vincent understand the landscape of opportunity and, more importantly, understanding himself as a founder.
